Music on the menu at Blair Atholl summer fest

-

Cafe owners Sally Judd and Davie Mckenzie decided Blair Atholl could do with live music and have developed a summer concert scene.

Two years ago they added a 40ft bar, a pool table, antler chandeliers, some hay bales and sofas in a covered marquee bolted on to their Food in the Park fish and chips venture near Blair Castle.

Tonight (Friday) at 8pm Americana band Red Pine Timber Company open Food in the Park Live, which will see holidaymakers and locals attracted for music right up to October.

“Food in the Park Live is a relatively new project for us,” said Sally.

“Our unique venue in stunning rural Perthshire makes great live music more accessible to people who would normally find it hard to travel to a city to experience the same.”

The line-up this year has plenty of variety but Sally and Davie are particularly chuffed to have a Perthshire music legend playing for them.

“We are proud and very excited to announce that Dougie Maclean will be performing a solo concert here on Sunday, June 3,” said Sally.

“It’s not often you get an international star like this gracing a stage in the Highlands of Perthshire.

“Our programme for this season is now full, with 46 nights of live music booked over the next seven months.

“All of the artists and bands playing at Food in the Park Live are high-calibre, seasoned professionals.

“Whatever music you are into, every night of live music will be incredible.”

Other performers include Iain Forbes on April 21, Jenn and LB (June 16 and October 20), Schiehallion on June 1 and August 10, Nae Plans on 46 gigs are lined up for the summer September 1, Tidelines on September 29 and Session A9’s Charlie McKerron and Marc Clement on August 11.

Tonight the Perth band Red Pine Timber Company will be performing tracks from their latest album ‘Sorry for the Good Times’.

On Saturday it is the turn of Last Orders, playing a range of rock covers.
