Relegation concerns are eased for Wright

-

Tommy Wright reckons Wednesday’s three points against Hamilton has given his side Premiership breathing space.

The vital McDiarmid Park victory pulled St Johnstone into seventh position and 12 points clear of the relegation play-off place.

Wright is wanting the positive run of form — now at three games without a defeat — to continue through to the end of the season.

The Perth boss said:“The table looks a lot healthier for us and I’m pleased for the players. The last few weeks we have looked like ourselves.

“It makes it difficult for the teams below us, especially with everyone playing each other.

“On 37 points, you would be unlucky to be dragged into a play-off and certainly 12th.

“But we’re going to get more points than that. We are on a bit of a run now and hopefully we can finish the season strongly.”

Wright believes Saints should have been more comfortable than a solitary goal win on Wednesday night.

“It was a good performance and we deserved to win it,”he said. “We should have scored more, mainly in the first half.

“It was a wee bit nervy towards the end but, overall, we were the better side.

“The whole team did well on Wednesday. The shape was different and George Williams gives us something different in behind the two strikers.”

Chris Kane again impressed the Perth manager.

He added:“Chris had the work-rate, strength and also bringing people into play.

“His all-round game is improving. We always know that he can get goals.”
