Funding for school kids farming day
Children will be able to spend a day learning about food and farming after a funding boost.
The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) has confirmed it received funding support from the Rural Perth and Kinross LEADER programme to host a food and farming day at Highland Safaris in Dull on Friday, June 15.
Pupils from across the region will be able to visit the Highland Perthshire countryside to learn about livestock and farm machinery, and will even be able to milk a fibreglass cow and take turns making their own butter.
Alix Ritchie, Perth and Kinross coordinator for RHET, said:“Food and farming days provide a wonderful outdoor learning experience to help educate children about where the food they eat comes from. We are grateful to Rural Perth and Kinross LEADER programme 2014-2020 and to the Basil Death Fund for providing the funds to make this event possible.”
Jackie Brierton, chair of Rural Perth and Kinross LEADER, added:“The award towards this community project is one of a number of benefitting from a portion of £3.8 million of LEADER and Scottish Government funds available for the development of rural communities and rural enterprise until 2020 in Perthshire.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for us all and we are pleased we have been able to support it.”
