Thugattackedbus passenger

-

Violence erupted on the No. 2 Letham-Perth city centre bus when a 29-year-old man carried out an unprovoked attack on another passenger.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that Tyler Williams went to the back of the Stagecoach service and shouted at David Irvine, who was alone at the time: “You f***ing know me.”

The pair had no connection but that didn’t stop the accused repeatedly punching him on the body - and a struggle ensued.

As the victim tried to defend himself, Williams grabbed him by the neck and tried to choke him.

“The accused held him in that position for about 20 seconds and the complainer was struggling for breath,” stated depute fiscal Bill Kermode.

The bus driver, who had heard the commotion, stopped his vehicle and phoned the police.

Williams, of North Methven Street, Perth, was arrested - and he was jailed for six months after admitting the assault which took place on December 4, 2017.

Solicitor David Holmes, for Williams, told the court:“He has had a number of problems.

“He can only apologise to the complainer. There was no prior connection with him.

“He had been drinking to excess at that time and was upset.”

The accused was able to carry out unpaid work but Sheriff William Wood said:“I am satisfied the only appropriate disposal is custody.”
