Trio plus run equals cash for Alzheimer’s Teachers do their bit

- Rachel Clark

Three Perth maths teachers took part in the London half marathon to raise money for charity.

Ewan Campbell, Kirstin Hardie and John Findlay from Perth High School all successfully completed the London Landmark half marathon on Sunday, March 26 around the City of London and Westminster.

The mathematical trio, nicknamed “Maths v Alzheimer’s”, have so far managed to raise £1,439 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, a charity they were keen to support.

Last year, Ewan’s mother passed away after suffering with the condition for a number of years.

All three teachers have seen the effects of Alzheimer’s from young to old in their families, which is what spurred them on to take part in the London half marathon.

The trio said: “To date we have raised £1400 and there are still promises of money to come in. It was the inaugural London Landmark half marathon starting on Pall Mall and finishing in Downing Street and took 10,000 runners past a variety of London icons like the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London to name a few.

“It was impressively organised with multiple charities, organisations, steel drum bands and choirs along a winding 13.1 mile route and for the three of us a great culmination of months of training and fundraising.

“All three of us have seen the effects of Alzheimer’s from young to old. This year Ewan’s mother passed away after suffering with Alzheimer’s for a number of years. This debilitating disease took away her memories, her pride and her self respect and this was terrible to watch. If by raising money we can prevent at least one person suffering in the way she did it will be a race worth running.”
