Perth swimmer Stephen Milne has added two Commonwealth Games medals to his growing collection.

The former Perth Academy student swam the opening leg as Scotland clinched 4x200m bronze on Sunday in the Gold Coast.

Milne, Duncan Scott, Dan Wallace and Mark Szaranek clocked a time of 7:09.89 to finish behind winners Australia and second-placed England.

Milne said:“That was an exciting race. Australia and England were really strong and we put up a good fight.

“I am delighted to have come away with another medal in the pool for Scotland.”

It was a second bronze medal at the Games for Milne who played his part in Scotland’s third-place finish in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Perth’s Scott McLay also picked up a bronze in that event after swimming in the heats and guiding the Scottish team into the final.

He then swam a personal best time of 22.55 in the semi final of the 50m freestyle.

Fair City swimmers have been doing the region proud and yesterday Camilla Hattersley finished fifth in the 800m freestyle final.

Former Strathallan School pupil Duncan Scott, who was coached by Scone’s Elaine Johnston, is having a Games to remember.

Now of Stirling University, Scott won 100m freestyle gold over the weekend.

He finished ahead of Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers of Australia and South Africa’s Chad Le Clos.

“Some people might have thought a faster time would have been needed to win that event,”Scott said. “But for me it was all about just getting in and racing. That’s what I love to do.”
