Hop aboard and chart a course down River Tay

-

Boat trips along the iconic River Tay set sail once again from today (Friday).

Now in its second year, trips will run from May to September from two pontoons – one located near the Fergusson Gallery in Perth and the other at Willowgate Activity Centre, 15 minutes down river.

Owing to the popularity of the journeys from Broughty Ferry last year, this programme has been extended and a return trip is now available.

Perth and Kinross Council and the Tay and Earn Trust are working in partnership with David Anderson Marine and Tay Maritime Action, which will be laying on the maritime excursions in Broughty Ferry and the Fair City, respectively.

Provost Dennis Melloy declared:“The River Tay is an important and unique asset for Perth and improving access to it by offering boat trips is a great way to attract visitors to the area.

“It is important that we continue to develop opportunities on the river.

“Having the pontoons in place is an important stage in continuing the delivery of the infrastructure to support this.

“I hope that visitors and residents of Perth and Kinross will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.”

Simon Clarke, chairman of the Tay and Earn Trust, said:“After last year’s successful first season of the Tay boat trips, the trust and Willowgate Activity Centre are excited that this innovative way of exploring Perth is about to launch again.

“The trust has already been busy with enquires for both the river trips as well as the moorings available to rent at Willowgate.”

Prices vary but start at £9 for an adult return.

It’s free for children under three and concessions are available.
