Injured horse rider rescued

-

The past week has seen Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) respond to emergencies from the Borders to the Highlands.

In a Borders emergency, the charity air ambulance helicopter landed on a steep, sloping hillside near Peebles to reach an injured horse rider.

SCAA Paramedics joined Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues to treat the teenager who fell from her horse and tumbled down the slope, injuring both legs.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team drove up the hill in its four-by-four vehicle and transported the injured rider down to the waiting land ambulance which then took her on to Borders General Hospital for advanced treatment.

A busy day on Sunday saw the crew take off for Kinloch Rannoch where they landed on the football pitch to attend a nearby medical emergency patient. The woman was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital by SCAA.

The crew was then scrambled to a serious road traffic collision on the A93 north of Glenshee where a motorcyclist had left the road at high speed and suffered serious injuries.

SCAA worked with Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues and Police Scotland at the scene before airlifting the injured man to Ninewells Hospital.

Closer to home, a SCAA paramedic was first on scene when a woman suffered heart problems in Scone

Using the charity’s land-based Rapid Response Vehicle, SCAA attended and assisted before a land ambulance conveyed her to hospital.

** * It’s been a busy time at Queen Victoria School in Dunblane where the son of one of the teachers organised a car wash in aid of SCAA and raised £91.

Other local supporters and fundraisers handing in their donations to SCAA this week include £220 from a Scone couple who have been regular contributors to the air ambulance charity - donating £3690 to date.

And Pitlochry Station Bookshop continues to steam ahead with its support for SCAA. The latest £300 donation this week takes the overall total to £27,980.

Thanks also to a Rattray woman and her father who donated £90 to the airborne charity in lieu of gifts for his recent 90th birthday.

Lodge Tay and Lyon No 276 has donated £665 to SCAA in memory of one of their own.

And a Blairgowrie man, whose nephew was airlifted by an air ambulance following a motorcycle accident several years ago, has shown his support for SCAA’s work with a valued £30 donation.

Locally-placed SCAA collecting cans being emptied at the base this week include those from: the Country Store, Kinloch Rannoch £48.40; the BP filling station at Pitlochry £30.18 and Lamb & Gardiner, Inchmichael Garage, Errol, £25.51.

* * * Dozens of local people are now signed up for the Lanrick Challenge on the Lanrick Estate near Doune on Saturday, August 4.

The fun-filled event includes a 2k Mini Mud Run for five to 12 year olds while the adults can opt for either the 6k or 12k course.

Both adult courses offer a range of fun obstacles including mud ponds, log piles, and cargo nets.

More people are being invited to sign up for this popular annual event which raises vital funds for SCAA and The Sandpiper Trust.
