Savour summer treats with PFA
Culture comes to thrill Fair City
The list of entertainment for this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts is a colourful mix that signifies all the best of Scottish summer.
The 2018 festival begins on May 17 and in the nine days that follow famous singers, orchestras and folk musicians are set to take over the city’s concert hall, theatre and St John’s Kirk.
Returning with his stylish Rhythm and Blues Orchestra is the amazing Jools Holland.
Perth also welcomes Tenebrae Choir, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Rossini’s Arias sung by English Touring Opera, the wonderful Ruby Wax and, delightfully mixing music and religion, Rev Richard Coles.
The Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra is pitched to play Rev Richard Coles on Strictly in the same week as the stars of the movie Brassed Off, the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
The Fair City’s shop windows will be themed to celebrate PFA, with the best displays winning tickets to events of their choice.
And buying art becomes a pleasure through the fantastic display in the arTay tented Jools Holland is back with special guests and top musicians exhibition outside Perth Concert Hall.
This is going to be a fine time to hear local fiddle player Hannah Fisher and her musical friends, plus a wealth of school pupils playing lunchtime concerts in St John’s Kirk.
Former Perth Academy teacher and lauded tenor, Donald Maxwell, will sing for his home city fans as part of a farewell tour and with Between the Crosses, the bravery and loss of WWI will be fittingly remembered 100 years on.
