Jeanfield Swifts hit Forfar West End for six on Wednesday but manager Ross Gunnion reckons it should have been even more.

The Perth side never looked in danger of losing this Super League clash which witnessed striker Rhys Davies net four times.

Chris Scott and Tony Holt were also on the scoresheet against a visiting team who were reduced to 10-men in the first half.

Gunnion was impressed with the performance and said: “When we get the first goal, what a different team we are.

“When we get a bit of confidence on the front foot we are a good team.

“But credit to Forfar West End, having to travel an hour down the road on a Wednesday night.

“We took advantage of that quickly and once you get on the front foot it is very hard to get back. We’re a much better team when we have a lead.

“I’m much happier because we were a lot more clinical. But it still should have been more.

“The chances were maybe falling to the wrong types of people. If you said 6-0 before the game, I would take it every day of the week.

It could have been five before the whistle but Chris Anton’s powerful volley was pushed away from danger. The visitors would be happy to hear the signal for the interval.

Unfortunately for them, another 45 minutes was ahead as they set about trying to stem the flow of Perth goals.

But instead Swifts would add another two in the second half. Davies rounded off his hat-trick in the 57th minute by directing an Anton strike into the back of the net.

And the in-form forward bagged a fourth of the game from the penalty spot before the referee brought proceedings to a close.

Swifts are without a game this weekend and Gunnion added: “It’s nice getting a break but at the same time we have a bit of momentum.

“We’ll take the week to get boys back fit again because our next game, Penicuik away, is going to be a tough test.

“Getting a week to prepare for them is maybe not a bad thing.”

In the North Division on Wednesday, Luncarty defeated Newburgh 4-0 to continue a strong recent run of form. Goals from Kieran Donald, Richard Doig, Callum Kirkaldy and Drew Fleming wrapped up the three points.

Blairgowrie were also in action midweek, away at Forfar Albion, and recorded a 2-0 triumph.

Matty Adam and Gary Axworthy were on target for the east Perthshire side.
