- Rachel Clark

Planned road closures this weekend have been slammed by residents as a “total shambles”.

A number of roads in Perth city centre, Bridgend and Scone will be closed to make way for the BBC Biggest Weekend at Scone Palace on Friday and Saturday.

However, one community council has dubbed the plans a “total and utter shambles” and says the lack of communication from Perth and Kinross Council is “atrocious” and “totally mishandled”.

And one resident even claimed the closures would mean a 20-mile round trip just to buy

a pint of milk.

The road closures are to make way for regular shuttle buses from Tay Street to the main arena in the grounds of Scone Palace – however the bus capacity for Saturday only stands at 10,000 despite 20,000 tickets being sold.

Residents have also been asked to avoid travelling into Perth city centre on Saturday between 10am and 2pm.

Keith NcNamara, Perth and Kinross Council’s deputy director of housing and environment, said: “You can’t have a big event like this and not cause some inconvenience to some people.”

There will be less disruption on Friday as the PA understands only a few thousand tickets have been sold despite the Saturday event being a sell-out.

A number of top acts such as Noel Gallagher, Emeli Sande and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will perform at the event.
