Get to know your holy neighbours

- Rachel Clark

A group of church-goers in Perth are hosting a special treasure hunt this weekend.

To coincide with Perth Festival of the Arts, Perth Action of Churches Together (PACT) is running an ecumenical treasure hunt around the city centre’s churches on Sunday, May 27 called Meet Your Holy Neighbour.

Those taking part will be given a map and a set of clues to find their way across Perth within three hours.

Some of the churches involved in the treasure hunt will include St John’s Kirk, St Matthew’s, St Leonard’s in the Fields, The Congregational and Methodist Churches, St John the Baptist Church, the North Church, Kinnoull, St John’s RC and St Ninian’s Cathedral.

Marjorie Clark from PACT said:“Timed to coincide with the Perth Festival of the Arts, Meet Your Holy Neighbour is basically an ecumenical treasure hunt round some of Perth’s city centre churches, on the afternoon of Sunday, May 27.

“A leaflet with a map, giving a number of clues, has been prepared (these include references to fetters, stained glass windows, a church mouse and a Perth jeweller). The leaflets can be picked up at any of the participating churches.

“We have 10 churches taking part – they have been deliberately chosen around the city centre to keep the event walkable within the three hours between 1pm and 4pm.”

She continued:“This is not a competition. There is no entry fee and there are no prizes – but we hope that it will highlight things of interest in each place visited.

“There will be people at each participating church to welcome visitors in and help them to find the answer to their clue.

“This is a new venture, and we hope that Perth people and visitors to the city alike will take part and enjoy an afternoon of discovery!”

Those wanting to take part can start from any of the participating churches on Sunday, May 26.
