Headteacher Leigh Vardot and Coral Bell planted a tree to mark the 10th anniversary Children at a Perth school have been celebrating their 10th anniversary in style.

Last week Fairview School marked the milestone by holding a party with pupils and their families, and planted a new tree and buried a time capsule.

Hayley Noonan, senior social care officer at the school, which teaches children with a range of additional support needs, said: “It was an amazing day, we were so lucky the sun shone.

“It has been 10 years since the school opened so we decided a celebration was in order. We had a beautiful birthday cake, a bouncy castle, balloon modelling and face painting. And, some lovely people came and did a dog agility performance and we got to play with some puppies.

“It was important to mark the day with the people at the school, and past staff and pupils as well as all their families came to be together for the afternoon. The kids had an amazing time and it was beautiful to be able to have it outside.

“It is great to see how wonderful the school has become in 10 years, we are like a family here.”

She explained how the pupils had all been working hard to create the time capsule for the anniversary party.

Hayley continued: “We made a time capsule which will get dug up in 10 years time at the 20th anniversary party. Each class made something to put in the time capsule and it got buried under the tree we planted which went in our orchard.

“Lots of different things went in, photos, menus, diary entries from the day, class photos, and some stories the kids had written.

“This really emphasises how good the school is and how everyone works so hard to make the school such a special place. It was so important for us to mark the day.”
