Luncarty gaffer planning formore success

- Matthew Gallagher

Luncarty manager Jon Kelly is reflecting on a promotionwinning season — and already he is excited about what next year holds for the club.

The Bleachers finished second in the North Division this term, rounding off with an emphatic 5-0 victory against Lochore Welfare.

There was a further boost when experienced duo Richard Doig and Danny Dobie put pen to paper to remain at Brownlands Park for another year.

Having bumped up to the East Premier, boss Kelly is now targeting another season of success when action kicks off again later in the summer.

“The lads did magnificently this season and should be very proud of themselves,” Kelly told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“We achieved promotion and managed to reach the quarter-finals of the East of Scotland Cup.

“If it was not for a fixture pile up, I think we would have gone even further in the competition.

“To sum up this season, it’s been very successful for a club of Luncarty’s size.

“We now want to keep growing the club and, with a few new signings, there is no reason whatsoever why we can’t go and challenge up the top end of the Premier League.

“We will have a nice break now which everyone deserves and we will see the boys back in July.”

Goals from Robbie Millar, Richard Doig, Sean Fergus (2) and Sean Burton secured Luncarty’s away win at Lochore.

Kelly added: “After the midweek game against Coupar Angus, when we let ourselves down, we found a different gear on Saturday.

“The lads reacted in the exact way we wanted them to, going at Lochore straight from kick-off.

“I was delighted we signed off the season in the proper manner, securing promotion by three points and not just on goal difference.”
