“There is a massive difference between developmen­t football and even the lower leagues, so the loans have been great for me,” Kerr explained.

“The Premiershi­p is tough so loans are a good path for youngsters to take.

“It’s a route I’d encourage them to take with an eye on getting into the first team.”

Meanwhile, the draw for the group stage of the 2018/19 Betfred Cup will be made on Friday and will be broadcast live on BT Sport 2 at 6.30pm.

The 40-team group stage includes the 38 SPFL clubs not involved in European competitio­n plus Highland League winners Cove Rangers and Lowland League champions Spartans.

The format remains the same as the two previous seasons, with the eight group winners and four best runners-up joining the four UEFA participan­ts in the last 16.

Saints will play their first game in the competitio­n on the weekend of Saturday, July 14. Perth boss Wright has arranged a friendly for earlier that week.

Saints will travel to Shielfield Park to play League Two side Berwick Rangers on Tuesday, July 10.

Kick-off is 7.45pm.
