Saint off to France with young Scots

- Matthew Gallagher

Saints defender Jason Kerr will be playing for Scotland U21s St Johnstone defender Jason Kerr can’t wait to test himself against some of the world’s best young talents.

The rising Perth star will represent Scotland under-21s at the prestigious Toulon tournament in France, which kicks off later this week.

Kerr and his Scottish team-mates will open their account with a game against Togo before further group games against France and South Korea.

Centre-back Kerr (21) has previous experience of pulling on the national colours having played a European qualifier away in Andorra earlier in the year.

“I’ve been in squads recently and for the Euro qualifiers but it is always great to be selected for Scotland,” Kerr said.

Playing in the Premiership was always the end goal for Kerr who said: “It has been an up and down season for the club but a great one for me personally.

“I thought we ended the season quite well and there were great results away to Dundee and Motherwell. Hopefully next season is even better.

“The plan was always to go out on loan to gain more experience with Queen of the South for the first half of the season. I played every game there.

“It worked really well. I feel I have cemented my place in the squad.

“I haven’t actually played many games for St Johnstone given how long I have been here but I do have a
