New boss in the council hotseat

Karen Reid appointed chief executive

Perth and Kinross Council is set to welcome its new chief executive.

Karen Reid will take over the top position at the council when the current chief executive Bernadette Malone retires in the summer.

Ms Reid, the current chief executive of the Care Inspectora­te, said she was “absolutely delighted” to become the new chief executive.

She added: “I am particular­ly looking forward to working with citizens across local communitie­s, a high performing team of staff across the organisati­on, and elected members.

“I know that together we can continue to deliver high quality services which have a real impact on the people who most need them across Perth and Kinross.”

Karen Reid was appointed as chief executive by the local authority’s chief executive appointmen­t sub-committee, who held the final interviews on Monday, May 22.

Cllr Murray Lyle, leader of Perth and Kinross Council and convener of the appointmen­t subcommitt­ee, said: “I am delighted that Karen has accepted the position as our chief executive - she will be an excellent leader and will help build on our successes as an ambitious and high performing council at an exciting time of developmen­t and growth in Perth and Kinross.

“Karen has held a number of senior roles in the public and voluntary sector. She is an inspiratio­nal, values led leader who is committed to partnershi­p working that puts people and communitie­s at the heart of every decision.”

Ms Reid will take over the position on June 1.

A number of people have congratula­ted her on her new appointmen­t.

Roseanna Cunningham, MSP for Perthshire South and Kinrossshi­re, said: “I very much look forward to meeting with her and working with her on behalf of the people of Perthshire South and Kinross-shire.

“Being the administra­tive head of a local authority is no easy task but Ms Reid comes to the post with a strong track record in the public and voluntary sectors and I wish her every success in her new and demanding role.” Karen Reid will take over the top post at the council
