Development gets underway
Work on a new affordable housing development being funded by the Gannochy Trust got underway on the outskirts of Perth this week with its chairman Dr James Kynaston cutting the ceremonial first turf.
Forty-eight new homes are set to be built on the trust’s estate by Dunfermline-based builders Campion Homes over the next 15 months which have been specially designed to be more flexible so tenants can adapt them should they have any specific needs if their circumstances change.
Dr Kynaston commented:“I am delighted that we have successfully realised our initial ambitions for 48 new homes and that our hopes of an exemplar housing development are on their way to being fulfilled.
“A £10 million development of this nature on the outskirts of Perth city will deliver much needed affordable housing, and have a far reaching impact on the lives of the residents who live there.”
The architect for the project, MacMillan and Dr James Kynaston of the Gannochy Trust. “We have aimed to capture the ethos of the original estate laid out by [the trust’s founder] AK Bell both in terms of the houses’distinctive aesthetic, and the emphasis on good ventilation providing a healthy living environment.”
