MSP steps up fight for new hedge

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has written to Humza Yousaf, the transport minister, to press for road safety action on the A90 at Glendoick.

BEAR Scotland felled trees near houses bordering the A90 earlier this year which provided a sound barrier and screening for the houses.

BEAR have since admitted their error and replanted trees but these have subsequently died. Local ward councillor, Angus Forbes, has called on BEAR to replant trees but has been met with resistance.

Residents are also calling on Transport Scotland to install a safety barrier along the carriageway similar to the protection afforded to houses further along the A90.

Following weeks of inaction, Mr Fraser is now pressing the transport minister to intervene to provide a solution for residents on the road.

Mr Fraser said:“The residents near Glendoick have been badly let down by BEAR Scotland and it’s important that the Scottish Government steps in to resolve these issues.

“There is a clear road safety issue in addition to obvious lifestyle problems for householders who no longer have a sound or screening barrier.

“Furthermore, if an HGV was to come off the road at this point, the lack of a safety barrier, poses a real risk to homeowners. Cllr Forbes has worked tirelessly to ensure that BEAR Scotland fulfil their responsibilities but it is clear that only by going to the very top will things change and the Transport Minister must intervene on behalf of residents.”

Cllr Forbes added:“I am delighted that Murdo Fraser MSP has agreed to assist with this issue.

“I have been trying to get a resolution for my constituents for some time and the lack of any commitment to this from Transport Scotland has been frustrating.”
