This Sunday, May 27, at 2.30pm, as part of the Alyth Creates festival, the church has organised a concert in aid of the Dry Rot Appeal. Perth choir Chansons will present a spring serenade of varied music. During term time, the Sunday school welcomes children in the front pews of the church. All welcome. Halls Association The AGM of the association was held in Alyth’s Lesser Town Hall. The association manages the running and internal maintenance of the town’s town hall and Ogilvie Rooms, as well as taking bookings for the various events in the halls. It was disappointing that, with the exception of the committee, only one member of the community attended this meeting. Current holders of office were re-appointed as follows: chair - Isabel McCurdy; vice-chair - Olivia Robertson; fabric convener - Gavin Tripney; event invoicing officer - Ian Brodie; secretary - Sandy McCurdy. Committee members were sad that long-term treasurer Jessie McLean decided to retire from the committee. Jessie has been a stalwart of the halls association, serving on the committee for 18 years. She has done a magnificent job handling all financial matters, including grant funding and completing the onerous Scottish Charities Register (OSCR) every year. Jessie was wished all the best in her retirement although, as expected, she has agreed to carry on handling some of the work over the coming months. The committee has become increasingly concerned that it has been unable to increase the number of its members. As a result, it is harder to continue to operate the halls as effectively as it has in the past. It is intended to continue the recruiting drive seeking local people who are willing to help in the running of the association. In addition, later on in the summer, there will be an open community meeting in the town hall with the objective of ensuring that the halls association continues to flourish. Any local person interested in finding out more can call secretary, Sandy McCurdy on 07725 472243 or email smccurdy51@aol.com. Pipe Band Alyth and District Pipe Band practise on Wednesdays from 6pm in Alyth town hall.
