Dougie didn’t draw short straw with great gig

We have the Biggest Weekend in Perth, but a week from now Blair Atholl hosts it’s own live music party – albeit a tad smaller.

Sally Judd and Davie Mckenzie, owners at Food in the Park and Food in the Park Live are getting their venue ready for what they consider to be ‘The Wee Biggest Weekend’, when Perthshire folk roots star Dougie Maclean and ceilidh band Schiehallion give lively concerts.

The established fish and chip spot, Food in the Park in Blair Atholl, will be hosting a weekend of awesome live music in a tent with straw bales to sit on, kicking off with a live appearance by Schiehallion, followed two nights later by Dougie Maclean , giving a solo concert on Sunday, June 3.

Sally said: “Hailing from Inverness, Schiehallion are a Scottish folk/ceilidh band who have spent the last number of years both at home and further afield, building an impressive fan base.

“Their live efforts have culminated in a well deserved reputation as a fiery and passionate must-see music act, and we’re delighted to have them with us in Blair Atholl from 8pm on the Friday night.”

Consisting of founding member Kenny Jamieson (vocals, guitar and bodhran), Stuart Mackintosh (accordion) and Calum MacGillivary (bagpipes), Schiehallion are big on the live music venue and festival scene.

Scotland’s pre-eminent singersongwriter Dougie Maclean of ‘Caledonia’, fame and founder of Dunkeld’s Perthshire Amber Festival has performed at concerts and festivals all over the world including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall and London’s Festival Theatre.

When Dougie ended the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with Kylie Minogue and Lulu, it was viewed on TV by over a billion people worldwide.

Food in the Park boasts food, full bar until 12.30am, a welcome for wellbehaved dogs and free parking.
