Second spot target for the Saints Women

-

St Johnstone Women’s boss Jason McCrindle has set his players the target of bumping up to second in the league standings.

The Perth squad, unbeaten in their last three games, sit two points behind Kilmarnock heading into Sunday’s away trip to Hearts.

Saints defeated Hearts 3-1 earlier in the season and McCrindle would love a repeat performance when the teams meet this weekend.

“It was a good win against Hearts earlier in the season because they were unbeaten at the time,”McCrindle said.

“They hadn’t lost a game so that was my challenge to the players. We did that with a 3-1 win.

“Hearts are our nearest challengers at the moment but we are also only two points from second place.

“That has to be the target on Sunday. If results go our way at the weekend we could find ourselves sitting second in the league.

“Hearts are a good, experienced side. They are better this year than last after going through a bit of a transition.

“They have picked up one or two good players, and a few experienced players.

“It will be tough down there, but we’ll go confident after our last three results.

Jason McCrindle “We’ve been able to get players game time for our development team. And others had a bit of a rest.

“In our last game, the three players who came on have given me a selection headache looking ahead to Sunday.”

McCrindle says he is looking at adding to the Perth squad - but will only do so if the quality is there.

He said:“We’re trying to get one or two bodies in to help us push on, bolster the squad and get the numbers up.

“But it’s not a case of bringing players in for the sake of it. We want them to be as good as, if not better, than what we have got.

“It’s hard to do that because I believe we have got the best players in the area.”
