Live Active Leisure brings in millions

A new study has shown Live Active Leisure brings in millions to the local economy.

Live Active Leisure, the body behind a number of sports venues in Perth and Kinross, officially contribute­s £16.1million gross added value to the local economy.

The study, carried out by BiGGAR Economics, showed the value of goods and services Live Active supplies and purchases in the local area and contribute­s to the community is “significan­t”, with around 9,000 people attending their venues regularly.

The study also found the sports and fitness trust saves almost £6m in health care by improving customers’mental and physical health and reducing public expenditur­e on health and social care.

Paul Cromwell, Live Active’s new CEO, said:“Perth and Kinross regularly scores highly in quality of life indices and the attractive lifestyle cited is undoubtedl­y enhanced by our offer.

“This research showed us that almost 60 per cent of our customers would exercise less or not at all if their Live Active venue or community offer was not available, which really emphasises the value of what we do.

“As a registered charity dedicated to being the provider of choice for our community, we have always been confident that we provide good-quality and accessible facilities for the people of Perth and Kinross.”

He continued:“In addition, we have always worked hard to ensure that these services represent the best value for money.

“The cost-effective delivery of services from organisati­ons such as Live Active Leisure should, wherever possible, ensure an excellent return on all investment and we believe that this recent study shows just how successful Live Active Leisure is at doing just that.”

The study also found Live Active Leisure also brought in £2.3m gross added value to tourism and events in the region, and helped to support 393 full-time and indirect jobs in the region.
