Runners turn up the heat at capital event

Club members were also in Dunblane (above) There were plenty of capital gains achieved by Perth Road Runners at the Edinburgh half and full marathon.

Six members of the Fair City club lined-up to take on the 13.1-mile test with Duncan Ryan first back in 1:19:30. He was followed by Martin McEwan in 1:23:47 and Richard Ward in 1:24:47, with all three men securing new personal best times for the distance.

Callum Maloney finished in 1:33:37 and there were two more personal bests as Gregor Wells finished in 1:44:41 and Caroline Duffin in 1:57:47. Taking on the Edinburgh Marathon was Stephen Jones, who completed the course in 3:47:41 while Kenneth Stewart clocked 4:28:19.

Not far from the capital, nine runners had enough of the heat this week and ran through the waters of the Firth of Forth.

The Black Rock 5 race witnessed Michael Souter finish in 28:15, James Fotheringh­am in 30:03, Richard Hughes in 35:58, Laurie Carruthers in 36:00, Arlene McWalter in 36:05, Liz Johnston in 43:13, Eleanor Paul in 47:15, Caroline Hogarth in 47:31 and Margaret McIntosh in 48:56.

Elsewhere, the third race of the championsh­ip saw a sea of green descend upon the town of Dunblane for their annual 12km road race.

Stuart Robertson was first home for the Perth club, fifth overall and third V40 in 44:03.

Kevin Rogers was 10th overall and sixth V40 in 46:41 and Kevin Riddell was 11th and fourth MS in 46:57.

James Fotheringh­am picked up third V50 in 49:44 followed by Neil Muir, who was fourth V50 in 50:06. For the ladies it was Claire Douglas who was first home for the club and eighth overall, third V40 in 56:26.

She was followed by Gillian McGuire, second V50 in 57:41 and Arlene McWalter who was sixth V40 in 57:44. Fiona Angus was third V50 in 57:57.

With the number of series races over the weekend, it was quiet on the parkrun front for the club. Twenty-four were in attendance at Perth parkrun where Michael Carroll clocked a fast time of 15:45 to claim first.

Next up were David Knight in third in 17:06 and James Fotheringh­am in eighth in 18:57.

Claire Douglas was first overall in 21:31 for the ladies, followed by Gillian Edwards in fourth in 23:11 and Gillian Smith in 24:38.

At the newly establishe­d Lochore Meadows parkrun Paul Grace finished their 5k route in 22:36 and Daile Sipple in 26:09.
