Alyth
Parish Church Morning worship last week was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. Peter Cuthbertson from Crossreach presented certificates to two members of the primary Sunday school in respect of the competition to design the 2018 Crossreach Christmas card. Aaliyah Skelton won the competition and her design will be used on the Christmas card. Roy Harrison was presented with a certificate for taking part. A certificate of thanks and appreciation for her enthusiastic support of Crossreach was also presented to Elasaidh Mollison. Mr Cuthbertson spoke to the congregation about the work of Crossreach. During term time the Sunday school welcomes children in the front pews of the church. A creche for under-threes is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court at 10.30am. The church website at www.alythparishchurch.org.uk is updated weekly. Family History Alyth family history project is open on Sundays. from 2-4pm. This project is entirely voluntary and organisers thank everyone who helps keep it going.

Church The Sunday service at Bendochy church is from 10-10.45am. See the Coupar Angus Abbey Church section for details. Volunteers who have been“making it happen”in the Dunkeld area were celebrated at a volunteer appreciation evening last week.
Organised by the Hipshire Network, the event presented an opportunity to nominate voluntary groups and individual volunteers in recognition
and Lilian Grey. The runners-up were Terry Blackwell, Gill Caruso and Norrie Bannerman. Losing semifinalists were Mary Fotheringham, George Laing, Yvonne Geddes and Anne McConnachie, John Archibald, and Jim Mailer. This competition was sponsored by Murray Bakers, of South Street, Perth and thanks go to them for supplying the trophy and prizes. During that afternoon, it was announced that long-standing member Ann Wood had sadly passed away in Moncrieffe care home after a short illness. Ann was at one time the club steward and also a founder member of the Wednesday club. The committee and members extend their sincere condolences to her family at this sad time, and funeral arrangements will be released in due course. Hat night winners were Terry Blackwell, Marleen Laind and Eddie Grey. Best wishes to the gents who are still in the Perthshire senior fours, triples and singles. Old Tyme Dance Tonight, in the Institute 7.30–10.30pm. Music by George Rennie. Tickets cost £5 (includes tea and biscuits) available at the door on the night. Proceeds go to charity. Dunbarney and Forgandenny Church A garden party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the church’s minister, Allan and his family’s arrival at Dunbarney and Forgandenny Church will be held in the gardens of Dunbarney Church, from 2–4pm tomorrow. There will be fun, games and tea/cakes in the hall and Anne Kemp will entertain. All welcome. Church Services on Sunday are at the usual times – 9.30am in Dunbarney church and 11am in Forgandenny church. All welcome. Joint Summer Services During July and the first week of August there will be joint services at 10.30am held in alternating churches. To facilitate this, mini buses will be run. The route they take will depend on the convenience of those people who make use of their efforts around Dunkeld and Birnam.

of them. Chatterbox The last for this session is on Thursday, June 21 and will take the form of the group’s annual garden party. There will be lots of fun, games and goodies on offer. All welcome. Ladies Exercise Group This group has now finished for this session and resumes on Monday, July 30. Men’s Fitness Class This class is now on holiday and will start back on Tuesday, July 31. Cyprus Golf Club Bus times for the weekend away outing to Dumfries will see the bus leave Kintillo at 8.45am and Bridge of Earn at 9am. The 100 Club winners for May were £30 – N Ptak, £10 – L Waugh, £5 – G Dyke, and £5 – K Zalinskie. Recent bonus ball winners were G Leslie, J Garroch, K O’Connor - £25; R Smith - £50.
Burrelton
Church Communion was celebrated in a service led by the Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston last week, with Lynne Mitchell as organist. Sheena McNaughton read from One Kings chapter 17, verses 17-24 and from the Gospel of Luke chapter seven, verses 11-17. Office bearers on duty were Anne Baxter and Gordon Rodger. Sunday club was led by Joy Gowrie. Flowers were provided by Mavis Anton and tea and coffee was served by Linda and Iain Stevenson. A meeting of the congregation will take place in the church at 7pm on Wednesday, June 27. A large attendance is requested. PVG and safeguarding training takes place in the church halls, Woodside, at 7pm on Wednesday, June 20. This is open to any interested church member. Guild The summer meeting of Perth Presbyterial Council was in Dunbarney Church on Thursday of this week. The guest speaker was former moderator the Very Rev Russell Barr. individuals and Peter Clark, wellknown local musician, entertained the gathering and presented each nominee with a certificate of appreciation on the night.
The evening was rounded off with some refreshments and an opportunity to network and socialise.
Community Cafe Open every Tuesday, from 11.30am-2pm in the church hall. There is no charge made for tea, coffee or home baking. Busy Bees The toddlers’ group runs on Tuesday mornings, 10-11.30am. Burrelton and Woodside Youth Club The club is open to all young people from P6 to S6 every Sunday, from 6.30-8pm with a programme of different activities every week. The 100 Club winners were Sheila Legge with £10, and Irene Smith of Scott Street with £5. A group of 12 Burrelton members travelled to Luncarty bowling club recently to play their annual friendly. On this occcasion Luncarty won a closely contested game by 46 shots to 38. The hat night winners on June 1 were Margaret Duthie and Jim Smith. The 100 Club winners were Susie Eisner with £10, and Mabel Harrier with £5. Hat night winners on June 8 were Nannie MacDonald, Jim Smith and Ian Milne. The 100 Club winners were Norrie Currie who won £10, and Mabel Harrier with £5.
Caputh/Spittalfield
Church Rev Peggy Ewart Roberts and husband Rev Bill Ewart shared the service in Clunie Church on June 3, with Janet Coyle, organist and Paul Latham read the lessons. The minister conducted the service in Caputh church last week, Ann Hooton read the lessons and Bill and Jenny Whyte shared organ duties. The morning service will be in Caputh church at the usual time on Sunday. Further donations received have brought the total collected for Christian Aid to £381. Thanks to all for their generous support. The annual strawberry tea is in Caputh church 2-4pm on Saturday, July 7. All welcome.

Abbey Church Last week’s service was led by reader Rosemary Patterson as Rev Andrew Graham was on holiday. Readings were taken from Two Chronicles chapter 15, verses 1-9 and Romans chapter eight, verses 26-39 and were read by Jo Chinn. Musical offerings from organist Austin Wilkie included ‘Prelude in E Minor’ by JS Bach, ‘Fughetta in A’ by Charles Burney and ‘Recession Voluntary in G’ by T Pattison. In her sermon Mrs Patterson spoke of the differences between the Old and New Testaments, the old being blood thirsty and full of struggles, while the new is about forgiveness. Our world is a temporary stage which can include pain but behind it all God is there and will bring justice and good. God uses our suffering to teach us and works everything together for good to those who love him. The Abbey Church will be in the charity shop from July 2-14 and donations can be taken to the shop on Sunday, July 1, from 10.30am. Rev Andrew Graham will be on holiday until June 16. Sunday’s service will be conducted by Rev Bill Ewart as Rev Graham has been appointed as interim moderator at Blairgowrie Parish Church. Children’s ministry groups are finished for the summer and will resume on August 23. Anyone able to help on Monday mornings or Thursday evenings can speak to Donna Hindmarch or Irene Henderson respectively. The Sunday service at the Abbey Church is from 11.15am to 12.15pm. Meetings resume on September 7.
