Lisa puts Scots in running for a World Cup shot

-

Perth’s Lisa Evans netted a dramatic late winner to keep Scotland women in the mix for World Cup qualification.

The 26-year-old completed a remarkable comeback as the Scots recovered from two down to clinch a 3-2 victory away in Kielce against Poland.

Shelley Kerr’s side had battled back from the jaws of defeat with goals in the 78th and then 80th minute from Kim Little and Jane Ross.

Then Lisa was the hero when she stormed down the left flank, powered into the box, before tucking neatly into the bottom corner across the goalkeeper.

Lisa grew up playing her football in Perth and now plays for Arsenal after previously plying her trade with Bayern Munich in Germany.

She never gave up hope of a Scottish recovery and always believed that her team-mates had the required desire to net a positive result.

“We were knocking on the door the whole game and we always knew there was a chance we could come back,”Lisa said.

“Before we scored the first we had already hit the crossbar and the post.

“Once we scored the first after 78 minutes we just grabbed the ball and knew there was a chance we could do it.

“For my goal, Caroline gave me the ball and I just ran at the full-back. I was lucky enough to get past her and slot into the bottom corner.

“With our attacking threat we know we can create something out of nothing. We did that a few times.

“We’ve done the job so we’re chapping on the door and know that if we can get a result against Switzerland it could be enough.

“We just need to be switched on and do the business.”

Perth’s Lana Clelland was on the bench for the Scots who now turn attentions to games against Switzerland and Albania later in the year.

Two wins in their last two games would potentially secure qualification for their first ever World Cup.

Scotland currently sit three points behind Group 2 leaders Switzerland.
