Youth market firstfor FairCity

-

The best of Scotland’s Young entrepreneurs are preparing for the country’s first youth market to be held in Perth’s city centre.

The youth market is part of Perth’s Diverse CiTay Festival which will see the city celebrating the Year of Young People 2018 (YOYP2018) with a day-long event putting young people aged eight to 26 in the spotlight.

It will be based in Mill Street from 5-10pm on Saturday, June 23.

Youth market traders will range from jewellery and vintage clothing designers to artists and luxury chocolate producers.

A climbing wall, street performers and live music from the stage from Parliamo, Stop the Rain, Saharatheband, Wize, and Mikey will entertain shoppers while they browse the 30 market stalls.

Diverse CiTay has been co-produced by local young people with support from local bodies including Developing the Young Workforce Perth and Kinross (DYWPK), which is supporting the market.

DYWPK chair Steven Stewart said: “We are delighted to be part of Scotland’s first youth market and to have so many young people come together to showcase their talent in our fantastic city.

“Perth has many great independent retailers and small businesses. It is also the fastest growing city in Scotland with the highest selfemployment rate.

“Many young people today have the talent and ambition needed to run a business, but we need to do more to nurture their enthusiasm, encourage a wider culture of entrepreneurship and make their dreams a reality.

“A big part of our young workforce initiative is focused on supporting Scotland’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

“Events like the youth market are a great opportunity to break down the myths and perceived barriers and we’d be delighted to have more local business owners get on board.”

The Diverse CiTay Festival is supported by the Year of Young People 2018 event fund, managed by EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s event directorate.
