Gaelic reading triumph for Goodlyburn

Pupils from Goodlyburn Primary School received the award for Gaelic Medium Education Reading Journey from Nicola Sturgeon at the ceremony in Edinburgh on Wednesday, celebrating the second year of the challenge.
The First Minister’s Reading Challenge, delivered by the Scottish Book Trust, encourages children from all primary age groups to read for pleasure and develop a lifelong love of books.
Goodlyburn was awarded the Gaelic Medium Education Reading Journey in recognition of its success in demonstrating how a small GME provision can make a huge difference in embedding a reading culture within a school and community.
Gaelic teacher Christina McGregor, said: “Our reading journey has involved much more than just reading – trips to local libraries, developing links with Croileagan (Gaelic playgroup), author and singer visits, learning new digital skills, competitions and so much more.‘‘
Two more Perth schools - Letham Primary School and St Ninian’s Primary School - won in the School Reading Journey, Local Authority category in the challenge.
