Councillor Lyle then sought to draw attention to what he believed to be the positive aspects of his group’s budget proposals, such as provision for a new primary school “in the north west of Perth”, another replacement school “in north Perth” and “significant investment in both Perth Academy and Perth Grammar Schools”.
He went on: “Over the next ten years, this budget includes over £110m of investment in our roads and over £83m in our bridges, including the Cross Tay Link Road. Recognising the huge impact flooding can have on our communities, the budget includes over £35m towards flood protection schemes in Almondbank, Comrie, Milnathort, South Kinross and Scone.”
The council’s SNP group leader, councillor Dave Doogan, countered the administration’s proposals with an alternative budget that would have seen £2.4m kept for the creation of the Letham hub, the PH20 budget left intact and additional funds put away to build a new nursery in Bridge of Earn and keep the closure-threatened Balhousie Primary School open.
