A teenager made a brief appearance in private at Perth Sheriff Court this week, charged with stealing two vans from a local business park – and then driving one of them straight into the front of a bookmaker’s shop in Dundee.

Nineteen-year-old Kyle Clark, of Wellbrae Cottage, Gas Brae, Errol, made no plea and his case was continued for further inquiries.

The accused, who was represented by local lawyer David Holmes, faced a total of six charges, all alleged to have taken place while he was subject to a May 25 bail order from the Perth court.

He is accused of breaking into the premises occupied by Shore Laminates, Friarton Bridge Park, Perth, on June 17, 2018, while acting with another person whose identity is at present unknown, and stealing the two vans.

It is then alleged that being a provisional licence holder and not having a qualified driver with him – and while he wasn’t displaying ‘L’ plates – he drove in Perth’s Friarton Road and Union Street, Dundee, on June 17 and 18.

Clark also faced a third charge of using the van without insurance and, at Perth Police Station on June 18, failing, without reasonable excuse, to provide two breath specimens.

It is also alleged that at Ladbrokes, Union Street, Dundee, he threw a stone at a window – damaging it – and then drove dangerously, mounted the pavement in the van and drove directly into the shop front of the bookies.

Sheriff Gillian Wade remanded the accused in custody meantime.
