BlairThistle moveinto abeyance

-

An east Perthshire football side has been placed into abeyance ahead of the start of the new season.

Blair Thistle last week confirmed a resignation letter had been sent to the Perthshire Amateur Football Association in advance of the governing body’s annual general meeting, which was held on Monday this week.

The move comes following an unsuccessful attempt to install a new management and coaching team, with previous incumbents Stephen Page and Gavin Tolmie recently announcing their intention to take a step back.

However, a post on social media hinted that Blair Thistle’s hiatus may only be temporary as it is understood interest has been expressed in taking over the reins.

“As Thistle have been unable to find a new management team in time for the PAFA AGM, we have now sent in our letter of resignation from the league for the 2018/19 season,”a club post stated.

“As a club we have learned a lot in our first two seasons and feel it is best to look to bring together a solid management team and committee in time for the 2019/20 season so that a team can be built that is worthy of challenging at the top level.”

A previous post read:“As most of you already know, it has been Stephen and Gav’s intention to step back from the management/coaching and get new blood in place for the next campaign. Big thanks go out to them for getting the team established.

“Also thanks to all supporters and family who have helped since we set up two seasons ago.

“Despite interest in the manager’s position, we have not been able to secure the position and as such will have no option but to place the team into abeyance for the coming season.

“To all players, fans, friends and family, thanks for the memories.”

Sponsors Number 31 and Ericht Roofing were also thanked for their support.

Blair Thistle finished in seventh place in the eight-team Division Three at the end of last season after collecting 16 points from their 21 matches.
