Students at a Perth stage school are hoping to get their name in the Guinness Book of Records.

Stagecoach Performing Arts Perth, based at Perth High School, will join up with schools from all over the world in an attempt to smash the record for the largest simultaneous performance of one show.

They will take part in ‘Beauty and the Beast Junior’ along with Stagecoach schools across the UK, as well as other schools in places including Germany, Canada and Malta.

The performance will take place at 6pm on Sunday, July 1 in St Matthew’s Church on Tay Street.

Upwards of 6500 children in total are expected to take part in the record attempt, which is being held to celebrate 30 years of Stagecoach schools.

The Perth school’s principal Fraser McGlynn said: “Our students have risen to the challenge of preparing for the show in a very short rehearsal period and are excited to be part of the world record attempt.”

Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was released in cinemas in 1991.

In 1994 it was transformed into an award-winning musical which has been seen by over 25 million people around the world.

Most recently it was reinvented as a live-action feature, which was one of the world’s top-grossing film of 2017.

Emma Watson, who played Belle in the film, and Nathan Mack who played Chip the teacup, both attended Stagecoach schools.
