Tulloch pupils get taste of new school before the holidays

Perth children were able to enjoy the official unveiling of their new school before breaking up for the summer holidays.

The brand new Tulloch Primary School was officially opened on Monday, June 25 by Deputy First Minister and education secretary John Swinney MSP, providing new classrooms for more than 430 pupils.

Featuring 14 open-plan teaching zones, the school has an increased nursery capacity of 40 children, a new additional support needs base and nurture provision.

And outside the classroom, children will be able to explore and enjoy a brand new play area, grass pitch, multi-use games area, outdoor classroom and special eco-features, as well as improved pupil drop-off and parking areas.

The day also featured music and song from the whole school, including the school’s Glee Choir, who won the national Glee Challenge in 2017 and won the Perth and Kinross final of the competitio­n only last month.

Acting head teacher, Michelle Cassidy commented:“From day one, our children, staff and families have been very positive about our new school. We all welcome the bright, spacious and open environmen­t, which offers lots of opportunit­ies to enhance learning and teaching. It is wonderful to see the ethos of the school enhanced further making it truly a place where children love to learn.”

Council leader Murray Lyle was also on hand in the sunshine to welcome pupils into the new school.

He said:“The ongoing commitment we have to enhancing the learning and teaching environmen­t in our schools is clearly reflected in the fantastic new facilities here at Tulloch Primary School.

“We are investing very significan­tly in the school estate in the interests of children and young people in Perth and Kinross, so that they can achieve to the fullest, academical­ly and personally now and into the future.

“It is exciting to see a major project like this develop from the drawing board to a fully operationa­l, vibrant and busy school.”
