Recipe book raises money for Muscular Dystrophy UK

- Melanie Bonn

Errol-based potato producer Taypack has helped get 1500 copies of a delicious recipe book out to support charity Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Staff at Mackie’s of Scotland have dreamed up, tested and tasted 31 recipes from each main product range in support of the musclewasting charity.

Muscular Dystrophy UK is Taypack’s charity of the year and Mackie’s at Taypack Ltd in Errol along with the team in Aberdeenshire, came up with the idea of a hardback recipe book -‘Cooking with Mackie’s’ - that features seven popcorn, six crisps, four dip, seven chocolate and seven ice cream recipes.

Popcorn cheesecake Readers can also support Muscular Dystrophy UK by sharing their creations from the £12.99 book on social media by using the #cookingwithmackies hashtag.

Harriet Shaw, sales and marketing executive at Mackie’s at Taypack Ltd and one of the authors of the recipe book, said: “The recipes include haggis bon bons, salted caramel cheesecake topped with toffee popcorn and an ice cream cake.”

Nikki Nangle, marketing and design executive at Mackie’s of Scotland, said: “This book of recipes is intended to be a fun and tasty collection of recipes which are easy to make at home – and provide interesting ways to enjoy our products.”

Harriet and Nikki cooked up the recipes, with colleagues being asked to test out their suggestions at home and bring them into the office for tasting.

Sadly Denis Emslie, longterm staff member and former sales director at Mackie’s of Scotland, and Mark Taylor, brother of Taypack’s managing director, George Taylor, both lost their lives to forms of Muscular Dystrophy.

“The book project is dedicated in part to our friend and colleague, the late Denis Emslie, who was himself committed to finding ways to help others with the condition,” said Nikki Nangle.

“It has been a homemade team effort which he would have encouraged and we hope it will raise awareness of the condition and funds for the important work done by the Muscular Dystrophy Scotland charity.”
