Summer goes down tubes as flumes shut

-

half moon and full moon slides.

The decision was taken following a routine inspection of the pool.

Karen Nichol, Live Active Leisure’s business planning and marketing manager, admitted many families had been left frustrated at the news.

She said:“Some customers are disappointed but we are just as disappointed.

“But health and safety is the most important thing and it is essential the flumes are safe for customers to use.

“We would never plan regular maintenance at this time of year but unfortunately it doesn’t always work like that. We need to make sure they are fit for purpose.

“We respect people’s disappointment because we are one of the only fun leisure venues left in Scotland. People do travel from all over Scotland to come to the leisure pool.

“A lot of the work is getting done through the night. Our staff are so impressive in that respect. Customers don’t realise staff are pulling shifts through the night for this.”

Karen added:“We carried out annual maintenance as we always do. Checks to the flumes and flume tower found essential maintenance needed to be done and we are carrying that out at the moment.

“We realised there was more work needing done to the concrete block. The flumes are fine, which is frustrating.

“It is the concrete structure that holds it together which is an absolute priority to make sure it is in excellent condition. We need to do this work to bring it up to the standard it needs to be.

“We are sorry this is happening in the summer holidays so we are charging off-peak, which is what we charge when none of the attractions are open.

“We are hoping the works will conclude around about the middle of next week but it will also need a deep clean so we can’t say for certain.”

A number of families expressed their upset on Perth Leisure Pool’s social media, criticising the timing of the works and adding they would not be attending the pool as planned. A post on Live Active Leisure’s website said they are aiming to reopen the flumes on Thursday, July 12.
