Call-outs reach record number

-

A record six emergency call -outs in one day saw Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) work late into the evening on Tuesday.

One of the missions was a woman seriously injured in a road traffic collision on the A952 near Lonmay in the north east. SCAA airlifted the patient from the scene to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The day also involved a flight to the Loch Tummel area where a woman had taken ill. One SCAA paramedic travelled with the patient in a land ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary.

Another patient was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital at Dundee on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest in Highland Perthshire.

And the crew was still in situ at Ninewells when they were retasked to mid-Argyll Hospital where a woman injured in an earlier road traffic collision required an urgent transfer to advanced hospital care for head and pelvic injuries.

Tuesday also saw SCAA’s paramedics utilise the charity’s rapid response vehicle to attend two medical emergencies close to the base.

Other missions in an extremely busy week included attendance at the scene of a fatal road traffic accident involving two motorcycles near Braemar.

SCAA was first on scene and worked with land ambulance colleagues at the scene before airlifting an injured biker to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

And another road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry took the team to the A9 near Dunkeld, landing on the road before airlifting an injured driver to Ninewells Hospital.

And the crew was quickly on scene when a man was injured while canyoning near House of Bruar. Paramedics helped at the scene before the injured man was taken by land ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary.
