A double header from top Scottish comic Chris

Top Scottish comedian Chris Henry says he is looking forward to bringing not one but two shows to Perth next weekend ... writes Rachel Clark.

Chris will be performing two top shows at The Venue on Saturday, July 14, including a family-friendly show in the afternoon.

Originally from Coatbridge and fresh off a tour of the southern hemisphere, he will take to the stage in the afternoon for ‘Balloonatics’, followed by his comedy show aimed at adults in the evening called ‘Around the World in 80 Dates’.

Chris told the PA how he will perform two shows in just one day: “The first in the afternoon is for families called ‘Balloonatics’, and I have been working on this show as a comedian for a long time.

“It is an hour of silly-making chaos using balloons, but the unique selling point is I am the balloon guy who is not really very good with balloons.

“Rather than showing off, which the kids don’t like, it is about me being rubbish at balloons. And there are jokes for the adults that the kids won’t get in there too, so it is a lot of fun.”

And he will be returning to The Venue stage for his evening performance, which recently received five star reviews in Australia.

He continued: “On the same day in the evening, everyone goes home to drop off the kids and comes back for the show with adult words and adult themes.

“It is all about my disastrous love life because I have been single for nine years. I realised last year when I was on tour in the southern hemisphere visited places like Vietnam, Singapore and Australia, I was craving someone to share that with.

“But the only problem was doing all that stuff on tour was making me happy.

“So I decided to write the show while I was touring. It is about trying to find a partner in this day and age because the dating world has changed.

“It is an hour of pure comedy and everything that I find funny about comedy. There’s personal stories, jokes, a little bit of interactive media, so a lot of devices used to make people laugh as well as delving into my personal life.

“So many people worry about going to comedy shows in case they get picked on in the audience, but this won’t be like that. I am taking the p*** out of myself, not them.

“It is the funniest and most honest representation of what I find funny I have ever written.”

Chris will be taking the show on the road after his stop off in the Fair City, but he is looking forward to getting up in front of the Perth audience once again.

He said: “I can’t wait, I love performing. I have worked with The Venue a couple of times and it is a great place to work.

“They are very supportive, it is a good room and the crowds in Perth are fun to play with.

“Last year when I performed in Perth there were points where I had to stop because I was laughing so much. I rarely don’t enjoy myself.

“And I don’t have to put myself in two places to perform the two gigs. I just know that I can’t swear in front of the children, and they sit with their families so all I need to worry about is being funny. “Kids really bring out the best in me.” Tickets for Balloonatics at 2pm cost £9, children £7 from event.bookitbee.com/15457/balloonatics-perthscotland-2

And tickets for the evening show of Around the World in 80 Dates at 8pm cost £10 from event.bookitbee. com/15459/chris-henry-around-the-world-in-80dates-perth-sco
