Doo’cotrise uptheleague

Perth Doo’cot climbed into the top half of the SPCU Premier Division courtesy of a convincing eight wicket win against Strathmore at Forfar.

The hosts batted first and seemed intent on self destruction as Hewitson and professional Shum were both run out unnecessarily.

With the Perth bowlers carrying on their recent good form, they soon had Strathmore in deep trouble.

Pro Rizwan Akbar returned the key figures of 4-13 off his nine overs.

Only some late hitting by James Colhoun with 38 not out saw Strathmore able to deliver a sub-par score of 129 all out in 39.3 overs.

Batting nerves were soon banished as Asif Naeem attacked from the outset as he raced to a rapid 90 not out.

And the total was passed in only 21 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Results elsewhere also went the way of the Perth side and they now sit in fifth position.

Perth’s second team were less fortunate when they made the short trip to Falkland to take on the home club’s second squad.

Armstrong fell for 32 but Ferguson carried on to score his second century of the season, eventually being out for 122 in a total of 221 for six.

In reply, Jack Emslie and Tassewar Hussain both took early wickets but Adam Ferguson and Kris Glen both scored unbeaten 90s to steer Falkland home.

On Sunday, Doo’cot’s third team lost a close game against Stirling XI.

This weekend sees the first team away to Forfarshire, the second team at home to Freuchie and, on Sunday, the third team travel to Comrie.
