-

“Maybs was in at Hearts and I know he’s doing his pro licence.

“He played at a high level with Leeds United in the Champions League and for the Republic of Ireland. His calibre speaks for itself.

“Maybs also had time with Saints so he knows the set-up.

“It is a great opportunity for him and a no-brainer. He will probably be helping out with the first team and it is a good appointment for the club.”

Millar’s testimonial game with Aberdeen takes place at McDiarmid Park on Sunday afternoon, kicking off at 2pm.

The match could see Swiss forward Arthur Njo-Lea feature after his trial period with the club was extended following the Austria trip.

Supporters will also be treated to a legends penalty shoot-out at half-time on Sunday as the 1998 League Cup final team take on 2014 Scottish Cup-winning players.

Roddy Grant, Paul Kane, Allan Preston, Nathan Lowndes, Jim Weir, Danny Griffin and John O’Neil are all set to play a part for the 1998 side.

For the 2014 aces Millar, Dave Mackay, Frazer Wright, Lee Croft and Paddy Cregg are pencilled in for a McDiarmid appearance.

The testimonial match is being sponsored by Graham Fire Protection with support also being given by MKM Building Supplies Perth.

Duncan Gibb of Graham Fire Protection said: “As a Perthshire-based company we are delighted to support the testimonial match for a true club legend.

“Everyone was backing Saints when they won the Scottish Cup for the first time in their history – unless you were a Dundee United fan of course.

“Chris Millar was a fans’ favourite and an important player for St Johnstone over many years. I’m sure the supporters will turn out in force for his big game.”

Adult entry is priced at £15 on Sunday with concessions £5.
