Player of the month nominee earns praise from boss Jason
St Johnstone Women’s head coach Jason McCrindle heaped praise on captain Jade McDonald after she was nominated for SWPL player of the month.
The Perth side won two of their three games in June, with the McDiarmid Park skipper playing a key role.
A highlight included Jade netting a late winner in a 3-2 away victory against Kilmarnock, having trailed by two earlier in the game.
Saints boss McCrindle believes the nomination is deserved recognition for Jade and the club.
“That’s two months in a row that we have been nominated for player of the month,”he said this week.
“Last month was Rebecca McGowan and she narrowly missed out to a player from Celtic but it was a matter of 100-odd votes.
“It’s great for us as a club and it partly comes down to doing well in the league. We’ve only been beaten once in seven games.
“You know what you get with Jade and she is one of those girls who wears her heart on her sleeve.
“She gives 100 per cent in every game and leads the team. She challenges me as well as a coach so we bring the best out in each other.
“Jade has scored a few this season, none more important than in the last game to score the winner against Kilmarnock late on.
“Towards the end of the first half of the season she picked up a knock and shouldn’t really have been playing but
Jason McCrindle hopes fans will vote for Jade because of her commitment she wanted to play.
“The break has come at a good time for her to rest and recover.
“Hopefully she can kick on in the second half of the season and I think she will only get stronger for us.”
Saints, currently sitting joint second in the standings, have a two-week mid-season break before returning to training.
McCrindle said:“It’s been great so far and where we are is a reflection of the hard work that the players have put in.”
