For Maisie

be good to do something for the community.

“We have had meetings with Perth and Kinross Council and the green space team and a landscape architect.

“They have given us agreement in principle to install the equipment, but because the play park meets their play policy we won’t get any funding.

“We want to get a wheel spin, which is a roundabout for wheelchair users. A wheelchair can be pushed straight onto it.

“We then wanted to get a swing, but it is an exclusive piece of equipment that needs to be used under supervision and the council were not amenable to that.

“So we opted instead for a trampoline which is at ground level so again you can wheel Maisie straight on.

“Maisie would love getting on a trampoline for a sensory experience she wouldn’t normally get.

“We have also looked at other pieces like sensory equipment. We will get around five pieces of that in total, and it won’t add much to the overall cost.

“Maisie goes to Fairview School with other children who are in wheelchairs, and they could all benefit from this equipment, as well as visitors to the city.

“It will also help to break down barriers because children rarely meet other children with disabilities because there is nothing for them.”

She continued: “We are looking at a ball park figure of about £60,000. The equipment aspect is coming in at about £24,000 and the rest of it is the ground work associated with that.

“Fundraising only started four weeks ago, but already we have had local companies and friends making donations - some strangers are starting to make donations as well.

“But we still have a long way to go. We are hoping to get charitable status to help us tap into funding.

“We thought this would be a six- to 12-month project, but that was 18 months ago now.

“How long this project takes all depends on how much interest there is.

“Hopefully we will be able to get the money together in the next 12 months.”
