Jenny is all set for massive prom date

- Rachel Clark

A talented young musician from Perthshire will be performing at the prestigious BBC Proms tonight.

Trumpeter Jenny Whitaker (16), a music scholar from Strathallan School, has spent the past week in London undergoing intensive rehearsals with the BBC Youth Ensemble and the London Symphony Orchestra.

And all the hard work will come together when she plays two live performances in the Royal Albert Hall.

Mum Hilary said the task for Jenny is even harder because she has to play all the music from memory.

She said:“There is a little extra pressure as Jenny actually has two live performances and has to play all music from memory.

“The first performance is a curtain raiser for the 2018 Proms season showcasing the Royal Albert Hall as it has never been seen before.

Jenny’s performance will also reflect on the centenary of the First World War coming to an end in Britain.

Hilary continued:“Five Telegrams is both an audio and visual work that draws

upon the contemporary responses to the communication infrastructure of the First World War as the BBC Proms commemorates the end of the‘Great War’in its centenary year.

“The work is a joint commission for the BBC Proms, 14-18 NOW and Edinburgh International Festival, in association with the Royal Albert Hall.”

Jenny’s performance tonight will be broadcast on the BBC at 8.30pm for the First Night of the Proms, where the Perthshire teenager will take to the stage in the second half.
