Luncarty to Birnam A9 work to begin

- Rachel Clark

Work is set to begin on the A9 between Luncarty and Birnam to make way for dualling the road.

Perth-based firm I and H Brown is set to move onto the most southerly point of Transport Scotland’s dualling project later this month to start clearing the site.

The workers will spend 12 weeks clearing the road-side of excess vegetation such as trees and scrubs from the verges.

This means there will be space for an extra lane on both sides of the carriageway to be created as Transport Scotland looks to the Luncarty to Pass of Birnam section being dualled, which will begin later this year.

Eventually, this will lead to the entire A9 between Perth and Inverness being dualled.

A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said:“By undertaking these works in advance of the main construction contract, we can reduce the likelihood of delays to the main construction works by minimising the risk of ecological impacts. In addition, an ecologist will be present on site throughout the duration of the works to advise of any mitigation measures that may be required for nesting birds and other species, such as bats and squirrels.

“We will work closely with the contractor to minimise any disruption to traffic and would like to thank users in advance for their patience.”

The works will begin on Monday, July 16 and are expected to take around 12 weeks to complete.
