Lily Douglas was a star attraction at the Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens Star Awards Perth dancer Lily Douglas was a star attraction at the Cancer Research UK Kids and Teen Star Awards party earlier this week.

St John’s Primary pupil Lily (10), whose battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma has captured the Fair City’s heart, was guest of honour at the event, sponsored by TK Maxx, in London.

Along with 20 other young people from across the UK, Lily received VIP treatment during the day to celebrate the strength and courage she has shown since her diagnoses.

After enjoying a personalised ‘walk of fame’ and activities such as a magician’s workshop and acrobatic skills training, Lily took to the stage to show off the dance talent that has seen her win around 90 trophies and 200 medals.

After performing a moving ballet sequence, Lily said: “I just love dancing. Today has been amazing, a really good experience. When I got up to dance on stage, I was so happy. It was just amazing, it felt like a dream come true.

“I’ve got my glitter on, I’ve been doing scientist stuff and street dancing. I’ve just loved it.”

Lily was diagnosed with cancer in April last year, but was given the all clear last month after extensive proton treatment in the USA.

Her next challenge is to rehearse for a solo which she plans to perform at the UDO Street dance world championships in August.

The Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens Star Awards are part of the wider Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens campaign, which raises vital funds for research across the UK to find new, better and kinder treatments for children and young people with cancer.

Lisa Adams, Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens spokeswoman for Scotland, said: “Lily is a true ‘star’. Cancer can have a major impact on children and young people, so it was fantastic to see Lily’s smile light up as she took part in our talent show-themed party.”
