Doo’cotlose tolocalrivals

-

Perth Doo’cot’s rise up the league table was stopped in its tracks on Saturday as they lost to local rivals Forthill by 89 runs.

Batting first and aided by a muscle injury to Perth pro Rizwan Akbar, Forfarshire took advantage of an excellent wicket to amass a healthy score of 236 for seven from their 45 overs.

Richard Rennie top scored with 98 supported by 66 from Graeme Garden.

In reply, several Fair City batsmen were unable to build a major innings.

The run chase faded as they were bowled out for 147 in 43 overs, Tyler Ridder top scoring with 34.

But the second team secured a 38 run win against Freuchie at Doo’cot in a shortened 25 over match.

Perth scored 148 for seven in their innings built around 53 from skipper Graham Ferguson and a rapid 37 from Paddy Murray.

Freuchie were flying at 50 for no wicket in six overs but great spells from Nilesh Ahuja (four for seven) and Iain Chalmers (two for 16) turned the match on its head. The visitors were all out for 110 in the 24th over.

Doo’cot’s third team kept the winning feeling going when they enjoyed a victory against Comrie on Sunday. Comrie set a total of 108 in 30 overs. Scott McKenzie scored 51 not out in reply with Harry Gow scoring 28 on his return from injury. Innes Chalmers was 17 not out.

Meanwhile, the seconds are through to the final of the 2 Counties Cup after a narrow 12 run win over Meigle XI.

They won by 114 to 102 and await either Stoneywood Dyce XI or Dundee High XI in the final at Doo’cot Park on Sunday, July 22.

This weekend, Perth’s firsts entertain Stoneywood on Saturday before Super Sunday could witness three games.

Again the first team are at home, this time in the CS Challenge semi-final against Forres.

The 2nd XI and 3rd XI travel on league business to Stoneywood and Breadalbane respectively.
