Human excrement is dumped on South Inch Chemical toilet emptied under tree beside play area

- Rachel Clark

Members of the public have been left disgusted after a portable toilet was emptied out on the South Inch.

The toilet, along with its cleaning chemicals, was dumped under a tree in the middle of the popular Perth park.

It was discovered by a dog walker on Thursday, July 12.

The tree it was dumped under was near both the children’s play park and the travelling fun fair, which had set up on the Inch last week.

Concerns had been raised on the impact this could have had on both dogs and children in the park, as the contents included both human waste and toxic blue chemicals.

Katie McCandless Thomas from Dog Friendly Perthshire, said she was now wary of walking her dog Baxter on the Inch in case he got ill.

She was alerted to the mess by a fellow dog walker, and was keen to

She said: “We live right next to “A lot of people let their dogs general environment. the Inch and we have just returned off the lead, and it is not only “I am concerned if it has been from Baxter’s walk and it is quite disgusting but the fact there is dumped in one place, it could be dumped in other places as well. It is just outside the kids play park and at this time of year it is not just dog walkers, it is hundreds of kids playing on their school holidays.

“Even a bit of rain won’t wash that away, so I hope it gets cleared up and this is not a regular occurrence.”

She added: “I was quite shocked by it.

“We go down there four or five times a day and that is one of the trees Baxter always goes to, so now I will have to keep him on the lead because it is not worth the risk to let him get poorly because other people are being inconsiderate.”

Since the waste was discovered, a team from Perth and Kinross Council was forced to clean up the area at the end of last week.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “The council received a report on Friday about this, and subsequently sent out staff to clean up.

“This was a small amount of waste which was quickly dealt with, and we do not anticipate any issues arising as a result.”
