Meeting to be held over A9 dualling plans at Killiecrankie

-

A meeting is to be held to discuss plans to dual the A9 between Killiecrankie and Glen Garry.

Transport Scotland has written to the campaign group KilliecrAnkie1689 to say they are planning to hold a public meeting in the Highland Perthshire village in due course.

At the drop-in event, which will be held in Killiecrankie Village Hall, Transport Scotland will share the results of a recent archaeological investigation on the Jacobean battlesite.

The investigations were carried out last month by Historic Environment Scotland and Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust.

This comes after members of KilliecrAnkie1689 have spent months opposing plans to dual the A9 over the battlefield, with many objecting to the draft road orders that have been issued.

The letter from Transport Scotland said: “We write to provide you with an update on progress in relation to the A9 dualling project, Killiecrankie to Glen Garry.

“As you may be aware, at the request of Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust (PKHT) who advise Perth and Kinross Council on cultural heritage matters, additional archaeological investigations were undertaken within the battlefield in June 2018.

“The scope, which consisted of additional geophysical survey, additional metal detecting and trial trenching, was agreed with HES and PKHT.

“Reports on the results of the additional archaeological investigations are currently being prepared and copies of these reports will be made available on Transport Scotland’s website in Autumn 2018.

“Once the reports have been prepared, we are planning to arrange a dropin event at Killiecrankie Village Hall and to update you on the survey work and share some of the work that is now underway to try and address objections to the draft road orders and environmental statement published on November 28, 2017.

“Further details and a confirmed date for the drop-in event will be communicated in due course.”

A date for the drop-in meeting in Killiecrankie will be arranged and communicated shortly.
