Have a break with new venture for county crafting shop

- Rachel Clark

A crafting shop in Highland Perthshire is looking to expand into offering short breaks.

The team at Karelia House near Aberfeldy are getting ready to start offering short crafting breaks.

Small groups will be able to enjoy overnight stays at Mains of Taymouth and day time excursions with Highland Safaris.

This will all be alongside crafting and afternoon tea at Karelia House.

Shirley Shearer, who has run Karelia House since 2009, said: “Our plan with these new retreats, is to provide weekends of top end experiences incorporating craft, relaxation, fabulous scenery, heritage, and not forgetting proper afternoon tea.

“Mains of Taymouth will provide indulgent five star accommodation for the duration of the break, with Highland Safaris taking participants on a four by four Land Rover safari up into the hills to see the sights, engage with our amazing natural environment, and perhaps gather inspiration and photographs for their craft projects which they then will complete here at Karelia House.”

Shirley said visitors should love the combination of relaxation, crafting and adventure.

She said: “Highland Safaris offer amazing winter safaris in the mountains to a sub arctic environment where you can visit a cosy bothy and watch the snow swirling past the window. There are also opportunities to spot winter wildlife.

“Both Mains of Taymouth Country Estate and Highland Safaris have proved themselves in their sectors, regularly demonstrating excellence and continuing to improve their offerings. They have really put this area on the map as a five star location.

“We are delighted to work closely with them on this. On a personal level, our families enjoy links and friendships going back generations.”
