New housing is ready

- Rachel Clark

Residents in Perth will soon be able to move into their new affordable houses.

Urban Union, which has been building affordable homes in Muirton, has officially handed over the keys to Fairfield Housing Cooperative, meaning residents can start moving in later this summer.

The multi-million pound project, which is part of a bid to regenerate Muirton, has seen 102 new homes built, with an additional 101 for private sale.

Although this is only the first stage of Urban Union’s plans, the company expects to complete the works on the affordable homes by the end of the year, and the private homes by summer 2019.

Neil McKay, managing director of Urban Union, said:“This represents a major milestone in the regeneration of Muirton as we are now one step closer to the first residents moving into their new homes.

“We have worked closely with Fairfield Housing Cooperative and Caledonia Housing Association throughout this project and all partners can be proud of these new homes.”

Grant Ager, chief executive at Fairfield Housing Cooperative, said:“The new tenants are delighted with the quality and design of these homes. They will be transformational to many lives. The final parts of the Muirton Park development are falling into place and it is exceeding expectations, with a true sense of both place and home being created.”

Other affordable houses in the future at Muirton will be given over to Caledonia, another Perth-based social housing association.

Peter Broad, development manager at Caledonia Housing Association, said:“As the project draws nearer to completion it becomes a positive testament to how collaborative working can transform neighbourhoods into places where people want to live and can be proud of.”
