Swifts ready for opening day

-

Jeanfield players are itching to get started with the competitive football this weekend.

That was the message from manager Ross Gunnion as his squad prepare for a Qualifying League Section I game against Bo’ness United.

Swifts hit the road for what will be their first taste of East of Scotland League action.

Gunnion said:“It’s always hard to gauge the level of competitiveness with friendlies as so many changes happen so Bo’ness this week will be much more competitive and we’ll need to step up to that.

“I don’t think we could have got a much harder start, to be honest, so it’s going to be a good test.

“They have strengthened again and will start as one of the favourites for promotion this season.

“But we have strengthened considerably and the calibre of player in our squad is increasing as we add quality and improve through coaching.

“Everyone is looking forward to Saturday.”

The Perth side warmed up for this weekend’s test with a 5-2 friendly victory against Rosyth.

Chris Scott was in fine form to net a hat-trick, with Rhys Davies and an own goal completing the scoring.

Gunnion added: “Saturday was another good run out and a much changed team from the midweek friendly again.

“I think the friendlies have helped the majority of players get up to match fitness and everyone is eager for the real stuff to start now.”
